The hot weather is approaching, could it help fight the coronavirus spread? Perhaps, but any benefit from the summer conditions will be lost if people abandon efforts that limit infections such as social distancing. The masks and face shields are still recommended although breathing through mask in hot weather is a challenge itself. And that’s where the carbon mask filter benefits will surface.

The true benefits of the carbon mask filter

Can an activated carbon filter face mask protect against coronavirus? There are many benefits of the activated carbon filters, but it would be wrong to state that a face mask with a filter will protect you against coronavirus. So what are the main benefits of the carbon mask filter?

Keeping a mask on for an extended period of time can limit your air intake and that’s where activated carbon filter benefits will surface. Activated carbon filter masks are proven to improve the strength of your respiratory muscles and increase your oxygen intake. If you have to keep a mask on for long periods, it is better to pick one with an activated carbon filter. See the source article here.

The activated carbon filter does not remove viruses and other smaller bacteria and can only trap a minuscule number of viruses (10-20%). As such they cannot be considered effective in fighting or preventing viruses like COVID-19 from coming into contact with you. Do not wash the carbon mask filter!

Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning, If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it. Remove the mask from behind (do not touch the front of mask where the germs are); place immediately in a plastic bag and seal it or place it in the washing machine. Clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

How to take care about the carbon mask and filter you have bought? The washable cloth mask with a pocket for carbon mask filter has to be carefully washed after each use. If it works – all germs will be on the outside of the face mask. Do not forget to take out the filter before you wash the mask! The carbon mask filter is not washable!

The cloth mask itself can be washed like any garment. Pick a gentle or delicate cycle with tumble dry low if you have printed (sublimated) surface of the face mask. High-temperature washes can fade and crack the print, and a high-temperature dryer settings can shrink the garment, as well as damage the print. I recommend using a minimum amount of laundry products when caring for this type of garment. Dryer sheets or fabric softeners are definitely need to be avoided.

Delicate cycle. No fabric softeners. Tumble dry low, or hang-dry for longest life. Do not dry clean.

Stay safe,
